Description

By utilizing FEM analysis, based on monotonic tensile experiments and previous data, this study analyzed on the behavior of beam-to-rectangular hollow section (RHS) column connections with exterior diaphragms. This article reevaluates the plastic and yield strength of this kind of connections with a new formular, of which the aim is to enhance accuracy in strength prediction and address recent discoveries in connections’ mechanical behavior, which, suggesting that the plastic region might not extend to the beam-end. Comparing Matsuo's traditional method to the new approach reveals, the latter showed a superior accuracy and safety, giving lower estimates on yield strength and plastic strength, according to a static analysis.
