Gels exhibiting optical anisotropy were obtained by adding ion exchange resins to polysaccharide solutions. Furthermore, gels showing similar optical anisotropy were formed in different solvents and with different deionization methods (application of DC voltage). Gels were also formed when the molecular aggregates (nanofibrils) were used as elements. These phenomena had in common the importance of the flow dynamics and the associated orientation of these elements.
