Description

The eduroam is the world-wide wireless LAN roaming infrastructure for research and education institutions, and has been adopted by 80 countries/territories. When we introduced eduroam to Japan having about 1,200 institutions, there were some concerns; technical and budget hurdles at each institution, and the shortage of labor at the national operator. To deal with the problems, we developed a centralized authentication system, and have been providing a pilot service for eight years. The system has been adopted by more than 40 institutions, and also helped us develop some useful services such as guest account service for academic meetings.
