The data regarding sex, age, daily oral cleaning habits and smoking habits were obtained from electronic medical records in addition to the results of the gas chromatography (H<sub>2</sub>S, CH<sub>3</sub>SH, total VSC). The accumulation of tongue coating in subjects was quantified using the Winkle Tongue Coating Index (WTCI). The relationship between halitosis and the oral environment was statistically analyzed using the data from 37 participants who had been assessed for periodontal conditions and the status of oral hygiene.</p><p> All VSC detected in the group with a tongue cleaning habit were significantly lower than those in the group without a tongue cleaning habit. A significant positive correlation was also observed between all VSC detected and WTCI and O’Leary PCR. Furthermore, a significant positive correlation was observed between Periodontal Epithelial Surface Area (PESA) and CH<sub>3</sub>SH in patients diagnosed with genuine halitosis. The concentrations of VSC detected were determined by logarithm conversion and used as dependent variables for the multiple regression analysis. As a result, only WTCI was significantly correlated to all VSC values, and the partial correlation coefficient of H<sub>2</sub>S, CH<sub>3</sub>SH and total VSC were 0.519 (<i>p</i><0.01), 0.479 (<i>p</i><0.05) and 0.531 (<i>p</i><0.01), respectively.</p><p> These results indicated that the accumulation of tongue coating contributes to the production of VSC. Therefore, prevention of oral malodor to reduce the accumulation of tongue coating is needed.</p>"},{"@language":"ja","@value":"<p>　本研究では，口臭症患者から検出された揮発性硫黄化合物（Volatile Sulfur Compounds: VSC）と舌苔沈着および歯周状態との関連性を分析することを目的とした．研究対象者は徳島大学病院口臭外来受診者156名である．ガスクロマトグラフィー検査（H<sub>2</sub>S, CH<sub>3</sub>SH, total VSC）に加えて，性別，年齢，日常の口腔清掃習慣および喫煙習慣などについて電子カルテよりデータを取得した．舌苔沈着状況はWinkle Tongue Coating Index（WTCI）にて数値化した．歯周状態または口腔清掃状態のデータが得られた37名に対しては，口臭と口腔環境との関連性について統計学的に分析した．舌清掃習慣あり群ではなし群と比較して，検出されたすべてのVSCが有意に少なかった．また，検出されたすべてのVSCとWTCIおよびO’Leary のPlaque Control Record（PCR）との間に，有意な正の相関が認められた．さらに，真性口臭症患者では，Periodontal Epithelial Surface Area（PESA）とCH<sub>3</sub>SHとの間に有意な正の相関が認められた．検出されたVSC濃度を対数変換して従属変数とした重回帰分析を行った．その結果，各VSC値とも有意な関連性が認められたのはWTCIのみであり，H<sub>2</sub>S，CH<sub>3</sub>SH およびtotal
