We investigated the impact of the pandemic on university students by surveying undergraduate students who required temporary leave from school, dropped out of school, or died. We invited all national universities with undergraduate programs to participate in the survey.<br>\nThe suicide rate in the academic years 2020–2021 was the highest in the past seven years. However, in most cases, it was unclear whether the death was linked to COVID-19. There were concerns that the number of students requiring temporary leave from school or who dropped out of school would rise, but both decreased compared to the previous academic years.
