Description

By utilizing FEM analysis on monotonic tensile experiments, this study analyzed on the behavior of beam-torectangular hollow section (RHS) side column connections with exterior diaphragms. This article reevaluates the plastic and yield strength of this kind of connections with a new formular basing on a suggested formular for connections on interior columns, of which the aim is to enhance accuracy in strength prediction and address recent discoveries in connections’ mechanical behavior. Meanwhile an approximate formular is also given. Comparing Matsuo's traditional method to the new approach reveals, the latter showed a superior accuracy and safety, giving lower estimates on yield strength and plastic strength, according to a static analysis.
