In this study, we investigated the “load” experienced by individuals during the Landscape Montage Technique (LMT) by analyzing their behavior while drawing. In a preliminary investigation, we developed a behavior classification index and focused on three key “drawing behaviors” directly related to the process: “line drawing,” “moving in the air,” and “stopping.” For the main investigation, we conducted the LMT with 13 participants and examined the time spent on each drawing behavior. In addition, we interviewed the participants about their experiences during the drawing process. The results indicated a relationship between items that required a high percentage of time to stop and items that the drawer found difficult. We interpreted line drawing as representing “work load,” moving in the air as representing “image representation load,” and stopping as representing “image production load.” We suggested the possibility of inferring the “load” experienced by the drawer based on their behaviors. This study showed that the “load” of the LMT is multilayered and its structure is not too burdensome for the drawers.
