Description

Miyamoto Tsuneichiʼs “Nagura Talk”[in his book The Forgotten Japanese] is a chronicle of changes in way of life as told by the elderly in the village of Nagura, Aichi Prefecture. Mr. Kinpei said that because there was light in front of the Juichi house and he could see the tip of his hoe, he was able to work until late at night. Then Mrs. Ogasawara explained that because Mr. Kinpei was working, the Juichi family kept the lights on. These lights were “lights of kindness” in the village community.
