To deliver optimal medical care for the temporal bone, we identified three critical pillars; (1) insights from microsurgical anatomy to facilitate complex and delicate surgeries, (2) expertise in advanced medical engineering to enhance surgical safety, and (3) knowledge from molecular biology and clinical statistics to evaluate malignancy, predict prognosis, and develop precise treatment strategies. Each of these elements is indispensable to ensure the highest standard of care.</p><p>Presently, our efforts have focused on establishing precise and safe temporal bone surgery. This was accomplished through a multifaceted research approach, with microsurgical anatomy serving as the foundation, complemented by molecular biological methodologies. The ability to perform precise and safe temporal bone surgery is the otologists’ core responsibility and greatest strengths.</p><p>Recently, opportunities for on-the-job training have decreased because of reduced otologic surgery cases and the implementation of work-style reforms. Conversely, the advent of digital transformation technologies, including virtual reality, and the incorporation of artificial intelligence have expanded opportunities for off-the-job training.
