Description
The displacements of ANS, PNS and rotational change of palatal plane were investigated using modified maxillary superimposition registered at the zygomatic process. The data obtained were also compared with those obtained from the superimposition of palatal plane at ANS in terms of the displacements of the upper teeth. The materials for this study consisted of pairs of lateral cephalometoric radio-grams from 24 growing subjects. The following results were obtained. 1. The errors of registrating the landmarks and superimposing the tracing films were both small with the incidence ranging from 0.15mm to 0.24mm. 2. The downward displacement of ANS was greater than that of PNS in the subjects. A statistically significant difference was found between them. 3. Palatal plane demonstrated clockwise rotation in most subjects during the observation period. There were individual variations in the palatal plane changes. 4. Statistically no significant difference was found between both methods in the forward displacement of upper central incisor. A highly significant increment of the downward displacement of upper central incisor was found with use of modified maxillary superimposition registered at the zygomatic process. 5. A statistically significant increment of the forward displacement of upper first molar was found with use of modified maxillary superimposition registered at the zygomatic process. A highly significant increment of the downward displacement of upper first molar was found with the same method.
