Objective : To investigate the clinical findings associated with Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome (FHCS). Methods : A retrospective review of 126 cases of FHCS that occurred between January 1985 and Dec., 2001. Results : The number of cases of FHCS per year in the 2000s was fourfold that seen in the 1980s. The Chlamydia trachomatis antigen positive rate was about ninefold the rate for Neisseria gonorrheae. Preoperative clinical diagnoses were proven correct in all of the patients who underwent laparoscopy. In 98% of the cases, all of the symptoms disappeared in response to antibiotic therapy alone. Conclusion : This study, the largest evaluation of FHCS published to date, revealed that laparoscopy is not always necessary for the management of this syndrome.
