Description

In this study, an attempt is made to examine the effect of the kind of fuel on the propagation characteristics of turbulent flame in a weak turbulence region. In order to measure directly the local buming velocity, the sequential flame tomograms of hydrogen, methane and propane mixtures are obtained by a laser tomography technique. As a result, the measured local buming velocities of turbulent flame are found to be not a constant value equal to the laminar burning velocity, but to be distributed over wide range. This distribution for hydrogen mixture is wider than that for hydrocarbon mixtures. In addition, the mean value of local buming velocity for the lean hydrogen and the lean methane mixture have a tendency to become larger than its original laminar burning velocity, whereas that for the lean propane mixture becomes smaller.
