Description

The purpose of this paper is to establish and verify the technology for realtime transferring video content on broad band, long-distance storage area networks. This paper evaluates the effect of ATM cell rates and transmission delay on throughput when datablocks with various size are transferred by using SCSI protocol and TCP / IP in Japan Gigabit Network. It also describes the results of the experiment using network emulator. It reports that the delay on Japan Gigabit Network is about 4.6ms, throughput degrades down due to the network delay. Smaller datablock size is, larger the amount of throughput degradation is. Throughput of TCP / IP transmission is less than that of SCSI transmission.
