Commercial hexose-free casein, hexose-rich blood-group active glycoprotein purified from human ovarian cyst fluid, and the milk protein preparation, were separately incubated with enterokinasetreated proteases of human pancreatic juice. Of these substrates, casein was susceptible to pancreatic proteases : 95% of casein protein became soluble in 80% ethanol after 2-h incubation. In contrast, blood-group active glycoprotein was resistant to pancreatic proteases : 39% of its polypepetide core and 91% of its hexoses remained insoluble in 80% ethanol after 24-h incubation. Moreover, the incubation of the milk protein preparation containing glycoproteins resulted in 56% degradation of proteins and 36% degradation of milk glycoprotein hexoses.
