SEF is transcutaneously collected by sucking corneous layer-stripped skin. Glucose concentration in the SEF shows good correlation with that in serum. This system consists of a main frame and a suction apparatus. A rotary valve for 5μl sampling, sensor cell with an Ion Sensitive Field Effect Transistor (ISFET) glucose sensor, and miniature, low-power consumption pumps were originally developed. This system was applied to a human subject and compared with the glucose concentration in the SEF on the same subject with manual suction apparatus.
