Description

Considering natural translation, one of the problems about machine translation (MT) is processing of inanimate subjects with transitive verbs, or inanimate subject constructions. MT systems require rich semantic information, led by well focused and in-depth perspective on this construction. In this paper, treatment of inanimate subjects has been clarified by comparing English and Japanese noun phrases in the subject slot. When subjects are different between English and Japanese, transferring the language structure is required. By means of these features, conditions of this construction and constraints of the structural changes are investigated.
