Abstract

Aging has become one of the world’s most pressing concerns, especially in highly-developedcountries. The pressures of globalization and migration are making aging an increasinglyintercultural process. The Japanese community in Greater New York is aware of the problem.The cooperation received from the Committee on Aging Issues of the Japanese AmericanAssociation of New York afforded the author the opportunity to organize a research group inNew York to devise concrete measures to address these aging-related concerns.The research questions addressed in this research were as follows. First, how have elderlyJapanese individuals lived and aged in Greater New York? Second, how can the Japanese ethniccommunity contribute to the well-being of elderly Japanese individuals in Greater New York?Due to the enormous amount of data, in the first half of this paper, demographic characteristicsand living conditions were examined. Age-related concerns were addressed in the second halfof the paper.
