Buckling Transition of Flexible Vesicles under Compressive Force

By numerical simulations, two kinds of buckling transitions of vesicles under compressive force are demonstrated. One is a simple bud formation inward the vesicle, and the other is a complex crack formation followed by secondary or higher buddings. These shape transformations and the buckling processes on the vesicles are dependent on the spontaneous curvature of the membrane and the compression rate. The possibility of spontaneous buckling is also indicated by the bending energy decrease after the energy climbs over a threshold.
