Abstract

The regional pattern of fresh vegetable flows in Japan has been enlarged. This paper analyses the reasons for this enlargement in terms of the function of wholesale markets. The results show that the regional pattern of fresh vegetable flows is basically organized by the collection and shipment system of Japanese three large central wholesale markets. But the enforcement of the wholesale marketing Act in 1971 made the regional pattern of vegetable flows more complex by increasing the function of central wholesale markets in local cities.
