Studies on the Microdetermination of Metals by Extracting the Inorganic Compounds with Organic Solvents. II : Microdetermination of Mercury
Mercury thiocyanate complex compound was extracted in various kinds of organic solvents and observed its light absorbancy in ultraviolet region. The maximum absolption peak of this compound in organic solvent was found at 285 mμ, which is proportional to the concentration of mercury. The suitable solvents for the extraction of mercury compound were ethyl acetate, n-butyl alcohol, isoamyl alcohol and the mixed solvent of n-butyl alcohol with ethyl acetate (1 : 3) and that of isoamyl alcohol with ethyl acetate (1 : 3). The optimum pH region of aqueous solution for the extraction of the compound was found to be 3.5?6.5, and 10?120γ of mercury could be determined by this method.
