Major climatic factors that control the global distribution of vegetation are reviewed. They are summarized into three factors, namely the energy factor, the moisture factor and the chill factor. Using the gridpoint data sets of climate (temperature and precipitation) and vegetation, the vegetation types are plotted on the two-dimensional plane composed of the energy factor and the moisture factor.
