- Dissolution Behavior of Solid Oxides in Molten Slag
In the steelmaking process, a lumpy lime is added to slag to remove phosphorus from pig iron. However, this slag corrodes the refractory used in a steelmaking converter. In order to minimize the corrosion of the refractory, the chemical composition of the slag should be optimized. The corrosion rate of a mixture of lime, magnesia as the refractory, and dolomite in the slag were estimated by using a numerical simulation that combined the previously suggested relations describing the dissolution rates of each oxide in the slag. The results suggested that a smaller diameter of dolomite and a higher initial composition of MgO in the slag were effective in preventing the corrosion of the magnesia refractory.
