- Examining the Moderating Role of Self-Directedness and Cooperativeness in the Relationship between Psychological Stress and Human Relationships in the Workplace
This present study examined the moderating role of self-directedness and cooperativeness in the relationship between psychological stress and human relationships in the workplace, specifically worker relationships with supervisors and co-workers. A self-report questionnaire survey was administered to 104 full-time workers, with a mean age of 37.6 years. It measured psychological stress, role overload, \social support, supervisor satisfaction, co-worker satisfaction, self-directedness, and cooperativeness. Multiple regression analysis showed that an interaction effect of supervisor satisfaction and cooperativeness significantly predicted workers’psychological stress as well as self-directedness, social \support, and role overload. With a low level of cooperativeness, workers with a low level of supervisor satisfaction reported more psychological stress than those with a high level of supervisor satisfaction. Cooperativeness moderated the relationship between supervisor satisfaction and psychological stress.
