In this paper we made a point of the corporate farm as the option in the inner fringe of Tokyo metropolitan area and discussed about its development process. Following our discussion, we tried to make clear some conditions and their interaction that supported sustainability of the corporate farm in the inner fringe. The corporate farm can be defined as large-scale farming carried on by hired managers and labour who apply the efficiency procedures developed in business. It is important to consider the development of corporate farms and their sustainability in inner fringe. because most of them are suitable for the environment of inner fringe. Ohmori Corporate Farm serves as a case study of corporate farms in the inner fringe of Tokyo metropolitan area, and is one of the most sophisticated ground cover producers in Japan. As the situation surrounding a sample farm has been rapidly changed from the outer suburbs to the inner fringe. its management system has been also changed from the family and the corporate farms. Although it is difficult for both the family and the corporate farms to enlarge the scale of management because of the serious conflicts between agricultural and urban land uses under the environment of inner fringe. corporate ground cover production of a sample farm has been developed with the reorganisation and the sophistication of farming, and the enlargement of profitability and productivity depended on intensive uses of land, labour and capital. It goes without saying that the development of corporate farm should be affected by the manager's attributes such as positive attitude for agriculture, venture sense for management and experience of innovation. Furthermore, this development has been ensured with the accessibility to markets and their information, the loan, additional capital, and potential workers. It is concluded that the corporate farm in the inner fringe of Tokyo metropolitan area has had great advantages to these accessibility. The fact that these accessibility are permanently utilisable for such corporate farm suggests that it is sustainable for the environment of inner fringe.
