- A record of the exhibition entitled as “Animals of a country of steppe: Mongolia”
An exhibition entitled as “Animals of a country of steppe: Mongolia” was held at Azabu University from October to December, 2009. Professor S. Takatsuki has been studying the ecology of wildlife in Mongolia since 2002. Through the field work, he hoped to feed back the results of the studies because they were obtained by the cooperation of Mongolian researchers and local people. He successfully did an exhibition at Natural History Museum of Mongolia (NHMM) at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in 2008. He and the museum hoped to have a similar exhibition in Japan. According to the academic agreement (2009) between Azabu University and NHMM, this became possible. This record describes the background, preparation, import the specimens, the reception party, the design of the exhibition, and the contents of it with documents and photographs. The main contents were 50 mammal specimens, including CITES animals like the argali (Ovis ammon), the ibex (Capra ibex), and the takhi or Przewarski’s horse (Equus ferus przewalskii). The exhibition like this has never been held in Azabu University, but was successfully done by the cooperation of many sections of the university.
