Research Abstract

We established a Dual Energy CT (DECT) protocol in the maxillofacial region and investigated whether parameters calculated from DECT images are effective in the diagnosis of metastatic lymph nodes of squamous cell carcinoma. Cervical lymph nodes larger than 5 mm were included in the study to determine the variation in CT values at 40, 70, and 100 keV and iodine content within the lymph nodes, and to correlate them with pathology. Metastatic lymph nodes tended to have significantly smaller contrast uptake than non-metastatic nodes, suggesting that DECT is likely to be associated with pathological changes within metastatic lymph nodes.
