Research Abstract

This year, I focused on the publication situation of "Erdumei" "Haoqiuzhuan" works in China and the difference of acceptance in Korea, Vietnam, and Japan. Consequently, although the countries of Korea, Vietnam, and Japan belonged to the same Chinese character cultural sphere, these countries have yearned in Chinese culture and have received it in quest of a new work, and point out that the big difference existed to the acceptance. In Korea, the novel "Haoqiuzhuan" respecting morality has really been received and the Hankul alphabet translation was also produced. On the contrary, the novel which explains "a man's chastity" as shown in "Erdumei" has not been published. The reason is considered that such kind of novel is against Confucianism ethics. In Japan, like Bakin, in order to create a new work, the Chinese novel was liked. The themes of "man's chastity" of "Erdumei" and "knight-errantry" of "Haoqiuzhuan" were taken in as a thing with novel originality in Japanese world. Moreover, a dilettante like Hirate Jyuneki was collecting the Genius and Beauty Romances freely in the second half of Edo. On the other hand, In Vietnam, people asked for the work which purify people's hardship and sadness of vagrancy, being influenced by fashion of oral entertainment, such as Muyushu of the China south direction. The difference of such acceptance has thrown into relief not only the difference of acceptance of the Genius and Beauty Romances but also the difference of one feature of the publication exchange in Asia, and the literary view of various regions of Asia.
