Research Abstract
I have been studying the history of exportation of raw silk in modern age for twenty years. Now, I have been doing historic and business research on Mizunuma Silk Mill in Gunma Prefecture. The famous factory was built in 1874 by Hoshino Chotaro, a wealthy farmer in Seta, Kiryu region. He was the first Japanese enterpriser to export raw silk to the West directly. He and his brother, Arai Ryoichiro built up new market for the manufactures in America during Meiji Era. I have been researching the documents of Hoshino Chotaro in Kurohone, Kiryu city, and collecting many business documents, such as diaries, accounting books, merchant letters, and other modern documents. For four years, I copied, read, and reprinted much of them. After that I wrote research papers and a book about Hoshino Chotaro and Mizunuma Silk Mill. There are more than ten thousand historical materials in the Hoshino Documents. So my studies and works are under going. I always gather the materials for papers and books on the factory. As soon as possible, I will publish new book on the business history of Mizunuma Silk Mill from 1874 to 1942.Say in addition, I obtained the doctorate by presenting the dissertation on the business and actions of Hoshino Chotaro. Namely, I had the degree of Doctor of Arts at the Graduate School of Regional Policy, Takasaki City Graduate School of University of Economics on 27, September, 2006.
