Research Abstract

本研究の目的は、日本仏教の変容と展開を、近現代の仏教寺院と檀家・信徒を超えた様々な人々との関わり、それによる変化に着目しながら明らかにすることにある。 そのための事例として、江戸末期に栄え、現在まで多くの参詣者を受け入れている、関東近郊の仏教寺院、柴又帝釈天や堀之内妙法寺などを取扱う。 世俗化や過疎化、葬送の多様化といった近現代の社会変動に影響される寺院が、イメージの変化などの外的要因や、参詣者・檀家・信徒の信仰状況などの内的要因による変化を経験しながら、それらにいかに対応してきたのかを比較し、その共通点と差異を考察することが本研究の意図するところである。
