Description

A series of reorganizations of the system of English education has been implemented in a top-down style in Japan. Though it may improve the level of English skills of Japanese students, it has actually been introduced based on the political and business reasons but not on purely pedagogical reasons. This paper considers the English learners' thoughts through a questionnaire and illustrates that they have contradictory views on foreign languages: that is, they think that English is the language they should learn, and at the same time, some think that English is not a mighty language in the era of globalization.
