Description

This article is the third report of urgent survey on the Todohokke Dialect, which is considered one of the endangered dialects in Japan. The present study describes phonetic properties and gives a presentation of vocabulary and folkloristic customs in Todohokke to preserve its linguistic features and other precious heritage and tradition: “Mazu” or “mazi,” one of the discourse markers in Todohokke Japanese and the central vowel in it, [ï]; “Kaigarakai,” the class reunion which was prestigious in Todohokke.
