Abstract
The mechanism of tropical tropospheric temperature anomalies is investigated during July, Augustand September (JJA) in the El Ni?no years (1983/1988/1998) with the Quasi-equilibrium Tropical CirculationModel (QTCM). The QTCM results with sea surface temperature (SST) data including anomaliesonly in the Indian and the Atlantic Ocean resemble observed variations of the tropical tropospherictemperature. Characteristic precipitation rate anomalies are not found in the observed results and theQTCM output during JJA in the El Ni?no years. Positive anomalies of the SST in the Indican oceanbasin are possibly connected to the positive anomalies of the tropical tropospheric temperature throughconvective adjustment associated with the Asian summer monsoon.
