The purpose of this paper is to investigate the international impacts of Foreign Direct Investments (FDl) by Japan's food and agricultural firms on the international market and Japanese agricultural sector. The analysis consists of 2 stages. The first is the panel data analysis on the functional relations between the production of food and agricultural sector in the countries where Japanese food and agricultural firms are operating as the dependent variable and the Japan's FDl activities etc as the independent variables. The second is the CGE analysis based on the estimated parameters in the first stage The major implications are as follows. As for the impacts on the welfare in terms of social surplus, almost all areas get better off although NAFTA,E U and Australia & New Zealand get more benefits than others. From the viewpoint of real GDP and trade balance, the areas such as NAFTA, EU and Australia & New Zealand get benefit but MERCOSUR,A SEAN,China and Japan etc have negative effects. As for the effects for the food self-sufficiency ratio, the impacts are almost negligible in every area although the areas such as Australia & New Zealand,Korea and NAFTA have positive effects while MERCOSUR,ASEAN,Japan etc have negative effects if they are focused in detail.
