Abstract
This survey was conducted on 57 sets of triplets to study birth weights of triplets, and compared with 41 singletons as an age gender-matched control group. Moreover, birth weights in triplets were analyzed in relation to sex composition, mode of delivery and gestational age. The mean birth weght in triplets was 1776.9±410.2g, while that in singletons was 3179.5±356.1g. The frequency of low birth weight infant and very low birth weight infant was higher in triplets (95.9% and 23.4% respectively) than in singletons (4.9% and 0.0% respectively). The birth weigh was heavier in male triplets than in female those, and that was heavier in opposite-sexed triplets than in same-sexed those. The birth weight was heavier in triplets who were vaginally delivered than in those who were delivered by cesarean section. Lowering of gestational age was significantly associated with a risk of very low weight infant : 100% of infant whose gestational age was≦28 weeks were very low weight infants, while the rate of infant whose gestational age was≧37 weeks was 4.8%.
