Abstract

The Japanese nucleopolyhedrovirus isolated from Spodoptera litura (SpltNPV Satsuma) has been well studied as a prospective bio-pesticide. Low LC90 and LC99 values of about 105 OB/ml were recorded on second instars of larvae of S. litura. The estimated LT50 for every instar-concentration combination was between 4 and 9 days. Based on the restriction endonuclease profiles of vital DNA digested with four restriction enzymes, the genome size, estimated to be between 96 and 130 kbp was close to those reported for other SpltNPVs.
