[概要] 本稿では, アジア系アメリカ劇作家デイビッド・ヘンリー・ホワンの『ゴールデン・チャイルド』に登場する中国系アメリカ人家族と, 彼らのキリスト教への「改宗」を巡る解釈の相違を考察する。アジア系移民にとって「改宗」が単なる信条の変更だけではなく, 新たな文化への「同化」の手段となっていることを解き明かすことを目的とする。 [Abstract] The purpose of this paper is to examine the meaning of Chinese family's "conversion" to Christianity in David Henry Hwang's Golden Child. The family members show the differences in their Christian interpretation. This paper will show that for Asian immigrants, the "conversion" means not only the change of their creed, but also one of the ways to adapt to a new culture.
