[Author abstract]The food habits of 31 species of wild birds were observed directly on the Nara Campus of Kinki University comprising of coppice. The foods included the fruits of plants, nectar of flowers, worms, and other small animals. The fruit of Diospyros kaki was chosen most frequently by wild birds (7 species), the second most frequently chosen was the fruit of Zanthoxylum ailanthoides (5 species of wild bird), and the third was the fruit of Aralia elata, Rhus trichocarpa, Lespedeza bicolor, Ilex rotunda, and the nectar or buds of Prunus yedoensis (each plant was chosen by 4 species of wild bird). The ecosystem in the Nara Campus comprising of coppice is discussed with reference to the food chain, and also to seed dissemination by wild birds.[著者抄録]奈良市郊外(矢田丘陵)の里山林にある近畿大学奈良キャンパスで観察された31種類の野鳥の食性を記載した。40種類の植物と昆虫等の動物類が餌として記録された。最も多くの種類の野鳥に利用されていた植物はヤマガキ(果実)で, 7種類の野鳥が利用していた。次がカラスザンショウで5種類, 次がタラノキ, ヤマウルシ, ヤマハギ, クロガネモチ, ソメイヨシノ(花蜜など)で各4種類の野鳥に利用されていた。40種類の植物のうち2/3は在来の野生種で, 外来植物や植栽種の利用は比較的少なかった。動物では一次消費者である蛾類幼虫の利用が多く, また捕食者であるオオカマキリ(卵)に対するカラス類の捕食が目立った。こうした野鳥類の食性を里山における植物の種子散布や食物連鎖の面から考察した。
