Description
The purpose of this study is to assess the shear characteristics such as shear strength, shear behavior, and shear toughness of fiber reinforced normal-weight and lightweight concretes with a crimped steel fiber under the direct shear test. The usefulness of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) in various civil engineering applications is indisputable. Fiber reinforced concrete has been successfully used so far in structures subjected to bending and/or shear force. Fiber reinforced concrete exhibits better performance not only under static load but also under fatigue, and impact loads. Especially, steel fibers are adopted to improve mechanical properties such as tensile, flexural and shear strengths, and toughness as well as shrinkage. However, reported research efforts on shear characteristics of fiber reinforced concrete are limited so far. Therefore, the research presented here describes the shear toughness characteristics of steel fiber reinforced normal-weight and lightweight concrete under the direct shear test proposed by one of t]he authors.
