Description
The laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2006, Muhammad Yunus, mentioned that social business is a business to solve social and economic problems in his Nobel Lecture on December 10, 2006. Since then, his idea of social business has drawn the attention of global business leaders, researchers as well as academics. Some global companies have already used his idea to launch social businesses. This paper takes up social businesses practiced by four Japanese companies in Bangladesh. First it provides a general overview of these four Japanese companies. Then, it focuses on Grameen Uniqlo Ltd. which is one of the four Japanese companies, and examines its activities based on the author’s fieldwork. Finally, this paper discusses the feasibility of the improvement in people’s quality of life through the author’s findings.
