ジェイムズ・ジョイス著『フィネガンズ・ウェイク』の第１部第１章３ページ 1 行目から29 ページの36 行目までを訳出した。逐語的に訳した箇所もあるが、内容をくみとりながらその主意を表した箇所もあり、「概要」といった題名にした。訳出した本文は小説全体の導入箇所であり、そこには主要テーマとなる諸モチーフが暗示されている。社会や家族における闘争、主人公HCE と伝説上の人物ティム・フィネガンとの並行関係性、HCE とその家族の人物像、HCE が経験するある事件、などである。I translated into Japanese James Joyce's Finnegans Wake I.1 (3.1〜29.36). In some parts I translated it word for word, but in other parts I just gave the gist of the sentences or the paragraphs. So in naming the title I used the word ‘epitome,’ not ‘translation.’ This chapter, as an introduction of the novel, suggestively presents motifs which hereafter develop into main themes. It includes strife in society or a family, the protagonist HCE’s position parallel to legendary Tim Finnegan, HCE and his family members’ personality and character, a troublesome accident which HCE meets in his life, and so on.
