This paper is intended to be an introductory essay for a series of research papers by Seijo University's graduate students, all tried to analyze the phenomenon of so-called "social aggression" or "relational aggression," based on the same small-sized (of about 100 samples) web-page questionnaire-based social research, conducted in the summer of 2011. In this introductory essay, the author's aims were (1) to review and explain the research history of social aggression, examining some representative research reports written in the past 20 years, and (2) to briefly show-case the results of our web-based symbolic interactionist social research, examining some basic tendencies found in the responses of various age groups and in Japanese and Chinese respondents. Among many, it will be discussed that social aggressive behaviors are not limited to young girls, but can be found among elder women and young men also, though the occurrence is less frequent than those among young women. Each topic will be detailed in the individual paper by graduate student, which will be published on a separate volume of Seijo University's graduate school student journal of 2012.
