Abstract

P(論文)

E. T. A. Hoffmann's "Alte und neue Kirchmusik" (1814) and A. F. J. Thibaut's Ueber Reiheit der Tonkunst (1824) were two works that greatly influenced the so-called the Cecilian Movement of German church music in the early nineteenth century. Though these writers were Protestant, their ideas were widely accepted by Catholic Church musicians, the leaders of the movement who strove to reform church music. In this paper I explore not only how Hoffmann's and Thibaut's writings were noticed but also accepted as part of the movement. Also I discuss in detail Hoffmann's influence in particular to which little academic attention has been paid so far.
