Linguistics started as a historical study of language. In view of that, the research on the changes of the suffix "-teki", which has undergone dramatic mutation, is significant to the observation of theoverall development of language.This paper analyzes closely the changes of descriptions of the suffix "teki" in 15 Japanese dictionaries, the earliest being the first edition of A Japanese and English Dictionary in 1867 and the latest being sixth edition of Kojien in 2008. Its analysis is threefold:1. Observing the trend of data changes collected in these 15 dictionaries.2. Observing the changes in the descriptions of the suffix "teki" in each dictionary.3. Observing the changes in the description of adjectives using the suffix "teki" in each dictionary.From the perspective of historical linguistics, this paper aims to explore the diachronic changes of the suffix "teki" since the Meiji period.
