C.S. Peirce wrote many papers, articles and reviews but none which should be called a book. In his later years he tried to systematise his earlier works though he failed to accomplish. Peirce was a founder of pragmatism but he distinguished his pragmatism from that of W. James and others. What was pragmatism? The following paper tries to trace the development of his thought from the time when his was a student of Harward University up to the point when his 'How to Make Our Ideas Cleor?' was written. For this purpose the following points must be taken care of 1st-His attitude towards Transcendentalism 2nd-How he recognized Darwinism? 3rd-The Impact of Positivism 4th-The American Science 5th-How he himself thought?
