The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of organizational and career commitment. Data were collected from 818 nurses in two hospitals in Kansai and Tohoku area. Two factor ANOVA shows that the period in the organization has an effect on organizational commitment but does not have an effect on career commitment. Multiple regression analysis shows that perceived fairness of organizational system has a strong positive effect on organizational commitment while perceived probability of career development has a strong positive effect on career commitment. The results also indicate that perception of interpersonal fairness has a positive effect on both organizational and career commtiment.
