Abstract

application/pdf

A new pyrometric technique for temperature measurement has been developed by processing the radiation spectrum on the basis of two-color pyrometry. The technique has the capability to measure the surface temperature of materials without the need to know the surface optical properties as required in the conventional two-color pyrometry. An important characteristic of this technique is that, one can examine the radiation spectra emitted from the surface of the material and select, by visual inspection, the wavelength range of the spectra suitable for the temperature estimation. The present technique was applied to measure the surface temperatures of oxidized stainless steel specimens which were kept at a constant temperature and pulverised coal particles which were subjected to heating. The results of these tests proved that the technique is effective for surface temperature measurements.
