Possibilities of selective dissolution of zinc from complex sulfide ores were investigated by using dilute sulfuric acid solution from 10 to 20 pct in weight at boiling temperature under normal atmospheric pressure. The effects of acid concentration, temperature, pulp density, zinc content in acid solution, particle size of ores and oxidation for the selective dissolution were studied with several kinds of bulk concentrate. From the results obtained, it was found that the selective dissolution of zinc could be essentially discussed in terms of the equilibrium relationships of the reaction, ZnS+2H^+= Zn^<++>+H_2S. By selecting the appropriate conditions, it was possible to extract nearly 100 pct of zinc from the bulk concentrate but the dissolutions of iron and copper were suppressed to about 5 and 0.1 pct respectively. Compared with the preceding reports, the present method gives several prominent features : direct reuse of zinc electrolyte as leaching solution, and leaching operation under normal atmospheric pressure.
