抄録

The History of Japan (日本国志) of Wong is the document consists of summary, translation and explanation. It plays very important role on the usage of knowledge from Japan. Among them, the five volumes of "The Criminal code (刑法志)" were the first full-scale Chinese translation of Japanese books, and complicated criminal codes of original Japanese documents were translated into Chinese most accurately. This paper analyzes the translation process of The Criminal codes, their degree of completion, and possibility of comprehention by readers at the time, in view of document formation and reading comprehention. The documents were translated from Japanese into Chinese, partly thanks to homographs between Japanese and Chinese (同形語), but sometimes they were difficult to be used as knowledge because of lack of reading comprehention level in Chinese language and the Chinese society at the time.
