抄録

This work sets out the definition of "Fukko yamatōe". Fukko Yamatōe is the painters of a restoration Yamatōe painting. Late Edo era, they learned the Yamatōe masterpieces of the Heian and Kamakura era in order to revive the past Yamatōe. This movement was begun by TANAKA Totsugen,and was succeeded by his pupil UKITA Ikkei or REIZEI Tamechika. Fukko Yamatōe was worked based on Yamatōe in early modern period. Fukko Yamatōe was painters has been considered to be a relation close to the political philosophy and social movement which was made to revitalize an emnperor's power. However,their works involved with such political intent are not a large number. In fact,they cannot be called one school in a strict meaning. Totsugen and lkkei learned Yamatōe in Tosa school. And Tamechika learned Yamatōe of Kyo Kano. In conclusion,I refer to the difference between Fukko yamatōe and Yamatōe of Tosa school in early modern period.
