Description

Quite a lot of Shiba Ryōtarō’s essays have been confirmed at Osaka Shibun in the early 1950s. Several texts are found at the same newspaper in 1960’s as well. Two ideas were made sure. Osaka Shibun is the most important place for early Shiba. Moreover, Shiba still pays great attention to the society while he left the newspaper company. Shiba’s essays were organized in a column called “colorful aspects of society”. The other columnists, however, focus on the changes of life style improved by the economy growth. But Shiba claimed that people involved in material civilization fail to keep the sense of history. In his words, “conservatism is more essential than destruction”, we can see Shiba’s idea has greatly changed.
